One of the questions I get most often when someone is considering a stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort is: “What are the buses like?”

And honestly, transportation can make a big difference in how you feel about a resort—especially at the end of a long park day when everyone is tired and ready to get back to the room!

The good news? Both Port Orleans resorts offer complimentary Disney bus transportation to the theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs. But there are a few things you should know before your stay, especially if you're staying at Port Orleans Riverside.

Here are three things I think every Port Orleans guest should know.

1. Riverside has multiple bus stops

This is probably the biggest thing to understand about Port Orleans Riverside.

Unlike French Quarter, which has one main bus stop located in front of the lobby, Riverside is a much larger resort and has multiple bus stops throughout the property.

That means you don't necessarily have to walk all the way to the main lobby to catch your bus.

Riverside has stops located around the resort, making it easier for guests staying in different areas of the resort to access transportation.

But here's the important part: know which bus stop is closest to your building before you head out for the day.

When you're tired after spending 10+ hours at the parks, the last thing you want to do is walk farther than necessary!

My tip:

When you check in, take a minute to figure out which bus stop is closest to your room. Then you'll know exactly where you're going when you're ready to head to the parks.

2. The bus stop you use can make a difference

Because Riverside is spread out, where you get on and off the bus matters.

The resort has several stops around the property, including the West, North, East and South areas. The main South Depot is near the resort's main building.

If you're staying at Riverside, I recommend paying attention to the stop closest to your room rather than automatically assuming you need to go to the main lobby.

And here's something else to remember:

The bus route can mean that you're not always the first stop picked up or dropped off.

That can add a little extra time to your transportation—but it can also mean you're getting dropped off closer to your room.

So don't panic if the bus makes a few stops before you reach yours. It's part of how a large resort like Riverside operates.

3. Don't forget about transportation to Disney Springs—and the water parks!

The buses aren't just for getting to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

Disney provides complimentary bus transportation from Port Orleans to Disney Springs and the water parks as well.

And there's an extra transportation perk at Port Orleans that I think is worth knowing about:

You can take a relaxing boat ride from Port Orleans to Disney Springs.

Sometimes the bus is the quickest option, but if you aren't in a hurry, the Sassagoula River boat is a really fun way to travel.

And during the 2026 Cool KIDS’ SUMMER period, Disney is offering more direct bus transportation between Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter and Typhoon Lagoon when the water park is operating.

So if you're staying at Port Orleans and planning a water park day, be sure to check the current transportation options before you leave.

One more thing: Give yourself time!

Disney bus transportation is complimentary, but that doesn't mean you should wait until the last possible minute to leave your room.

Disney says bus service between Disney Resort hotels and the theme parks generally begins about 45 minutes before park opening and continues until about an hour after park closing.

Your actual wait and travel time can vary depending on the time of day, crowds, weather and where you're staying within the resort.

My biggest advice?

Build transportation time into your plans.

If you have an early breakfast reservation, a Lightning Lane you don't want to miss, or a special event with a set start time, don't plan your morning down to the minute.

A little extra cushion can make your Disney morning feel SO much less stressful.

So, are the Port Orleans buses good?

In my experience, the bus system is one of those things that's worth understanding before your stay rather than something to be worried about.

French Quarter is especially simple because it's a smaller resort with one main bus stop.

Riverside requires a little more planning because of its size and multiple stops—but once you understand how the stops work, it's pretty easy to navigate.

And personally, I think knowing what to expect before you arrive makes all the difference.
